Remove Surface Dirt And Sand The Shutters
Close and secure the shutters. Use soapy water and a sponge to remove surface dirt from the wood. After the wood is clean, rinse the shutters off with a water hose and wait for them to dry. If any portions of the wood feel rough to your touch, lightly sand them. Secure a piece of fine grit sandpaper to the sander and move it back and forth over the sections of wood that you are treating. Once the shutters have a smooth surface, use a water hose to rinse away sanding residue from their surface. Wait for the wood to dry.
Paint The Shutters And Add A Design
Place a drop cloth on the ground, under the shutters. Cover hardware and any other surfaces that are next to the shutters with strips of painter's tape. Mix a container of exterior paint and pour it into a tray. Evenly coat a paint roller and apply the paint to the shutters in straight lines. Once the shutters are covered, use a thin paintbrush to cover any fine details in the wooden shutters that weren't covered by the roller.
Once the paint has dried, attach stencils to the shutters with double-sided tape. Create a border across each shutter that will enhance the rest of your home's exterior. Cover the end of a foam brush with a color of paint that will complement the color of paint that was previously used on the shutters. Fill in each stencil with the brush. After the paint dries, add a second coat of paint if any of the stencil portions need more coverage. Carefully peel the painter's tape off of each surface that was protected and remove the drop cloth from the ground.
The shutters will have a fresh appearance that will enhance your home's exterior whenever they are closed. To learn more, contact a company like Budget Blinds Of Coachella Valley.
